Julian Rowlands

principal bandoneon

Julian Rowlands is a multi-instrumental performer of world and classical music and a composer.
After becoming involved with tango music, the fascinating sound and unique expressive possibilities of the tango bandoneon led him to take a career break in order to study the instrument with the leading Argentinean player Victor Villena in Paris.
He has performed throughout the country at venues such The Lowry, Perth Concert Hall, Purcell Room, Hull New Theatre, Norwich Playhouse, Lakeside Nottingham, Colston Hall, St. George's Bristol and Wiltshire Music Centre. Julian tours with the acclaimed quartet Tango Siempre in their music and dance shows "Subitango!" and "Tangomotion", and will be appearing with the Tango Siempre sextet at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Sage Gateshead, RNCM and Warwick Arts centre in 2010. In 2009 he performed Piazzolla's Four Seasons with the Emerald Ensemble chamber orchestra. He also plays in duos with classical guitarist Adam Khan and pianist Ivo de Greef, gives solo recitals, and does recording sessions for commercial music, film and television.
Julian Rowlands' repertoire includes solo classical works and tango arrangements, chamber music, concertos and his own compositions.
